Land Acknowledgement Statement
The Northeast Unschooling Conference (NEUC) acknowledges that the site of our conference, Camp Winadu, is located on the ancestral lands of the Mohican people. The Mohican people were the original inhabitants of Berkshire County, including the area that is now Pittsfield. We also recognize the neighboring Indigenous nations, including the Nipmuc and Wampanoag tribes, with historical connections to this region. We honor and respect the enduring relationship between these Indigenous peoples and their traditional territories. We commit to fostering a deeper understanding of their rich histories and cultures and to supporting the ongoing efforts of Indigenous nations in preserving their heritage and sovereignty. We gather and learn here with gratitude and humility as we commit to building a more inclusive and equitable space for all. We acknowledge the long history of colonialism and displacement that continues to affect Native peoples. We invite you to join us in learning about and actively supporting Indigenous communities here and where you live.
